The Kafni Glacier Trek is one of the most popular trekking routes in Uttarakhand, known for its breathtaking views, diverse terrain, and challenging treks. Location:

The trek starts from the small village of Loharkhet in Bageshwar district and passes through various scenic locations before culminating at the Kafni Glacier. The trek covers a distance of approximately 80 km and takes around 10-12 days to complete.

Best Time to Visit:

The best time to undertake the Kafni Glacier Trek is from May to June and from September to October. During this time, the weather is pleasant, and the views are stunning. The monsoon season, which lasts from July to August, should be avoided as the region experiences heavy rainfall, which may cause landslides and roadblocks. The winter season, which lasts from November to April, is extremely cold, and the trekking trails are covered in snow.

Trekking Route:

The trek starts from Loharkhet and passes through various scenic locations such as Dhakuri Pass, Khati Village, Pindari Glacier, Dwali, Phurkia, and Zero Point, before finally culminating at the Kafni Glacier.

Day 1: Loharkhet to Dhakuri (11 km) The trek starts from Loharkhet and passes through dense forests of rhododendron and oak trees. The trek to Dhakuri is a gradual ascent, and it takes around 5-6 hours to reach Dhakuri.

Day 2: Dhakuri to Khati Village (7 km) The trek to Khati Village is a gradual descent, and it takes around 3-4 hours to reach the village. The village offers a glimpse of the traditional lifestyle of the Kumaoni people and is a popular camping site.

Day 3: Khati Village to Dwali (11 km) The trek to Dwali is a gradual ascent, and it takes around 5-6 hours to reach Dwali. The trail offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

Day 4: Dwali to Phurkia (7 km) The trek to Phurkia is a steep ascent, and it takes around 4-5 hours to reach Phurkia. The trail offers stunning views of the Pindari Glacier and the surrounding mountains.

Day 5: Phurkia to Zero Point (6 km) The trek to Zero Point is a gradual ascent, and it takes around 3-4 hours to reach Zero Point. The trail offers breathtaking views of the Pindari Glacier and the surrounding mountains.

Day 6: Zero Point to Dwali (13 km) The trek to Dwali is a gradual descent, and it takes around 6-7 hours to reach Dwali. The trail offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

Day 7: Dwali to Kafni Glacier (12 km) The trek to Kafni Glacier is a steep ascent, and it takes around 6-7 hours to reach the glacier. The glacier is a beautiful sight and offers a unique experience to trekkers.

Return Journey: The return journey follows the same route and takes around 5-6 days to reach Loharkhet.
