Only to add even more uniqueness to the location its geological features are truly amazing and exceptional because of the exposed North American and Euroasion tectonic plates on the surface. The location is a UNESCO designated World Heritage site for these reasons.

Your next two stops are no less impressive. Gullfoss is a huge waterfall which cascades in two tiers into a massive 32m deep canyon. The resultant spray of the falling water often catches the light on sunny days casting rainbows across this beautiful natural wonder.

As the town landmark of Grundarfjörður, Kirkjufell is found on the peninsula’s northern shore and holds the title as Iceland’s “most photographed mountain” due to its unique and striking aesthetic. The mountain reaches a height of 463-metres and is often captured alongside its resident waterfall, Kirkjufellsfoss.

You will also make a stop at two incredible waterfalls. Barnafoss and Hraunfossar. Hraunfossar is fed by underground water that soaks through the pores of lava rock. Barnafoss pushes its way through a narrow gorge.

Optional Activity

You can add an extra this day when booking to venture into Víðgelmir lava cave. Do not worry, you won’t reach the center of the Earth but you will follow a path of lava that was created thousands years ago.

Your tour then ends, as you arrive in Reykjavík in the evening.

If your flight is later in the day, you can choose to add-on a trip to the Blue Lagoon Spa before heading to the airport. Of course, you can also use the time to shop for some souvenirs before leaving.
