About this tour

Cameron Highlands  a hill resort with large tea plantations, farmlands,  lakes, waterfalls, wildlife, aborigines. It was discovered by British Geologist Sir William Cameron in 1885.  Tea Plantations are instrumental in drawing visitors to the highlands, and they work closely with Nature societies as in WWF in the conservation of our endangered animals. It is a wonderful feeling to sip tea perched on an elevated  tea café to catch a bird’s eye view of the lush carpet of greenery below. Some rare butterflies, stick insects, beetles, scorpions, spiders are alive at the Butterfly Farm. HOT POT meals augur well for the cool weather. Bring your sweaters along.

Traffic jams in Camerons  unavoidable.

Taman Negara is a 130 million years old tropical rainforest, home to endangered animals liken Tigers, Elephants, Tapirs, Sun Bears…..  14,000 flowering plants, 300 bird species…medicinal and poisonous plants, not forgetting the aphrodisiacs.   Taman Negara activities : Canopy Walkway Fridays and during bad weather closed), Rapids shooting, Jungle Trekking and the Aborigines village visit. The boatman skillfully negotiates 7 sets of rapids to reach a colony of aborigines living deep in the jungle.  The ladies shy away, children smile and men ‘run’ away only to reappear with their fire making and hunting tools for a ‘native’ demonstration. The rainforest is their supermarket. They also sustain themselves with small farming, fishing, trade medicinal herbs and spices and use blowpipe for small mammals. Night Jungle walk is exciting. You may sight mouse deer, owls, snakes, spiders, scorpions even wild boar and black panther.  Also watch nocturnal animals come for their salt lick. The Nature Guide lives in Taman Negara and he knows the terrain like the back of his hands.

Add on: Night River Cruise.

Kuala Lumpur is a potpourri of diverse cultures – Malays, Chinese and Indians.  It began as a tin mining settlement. The colonial landmarks Sultan Abdul Samad Building, St Mary’s Cathedral, Jamek Mosque, Railway station are British architectural marvels. We got Independence from the British on 31 August 1957. Iconic Batu Caves, Little India and Chinatown are main attractions. Check in. Free and easy.

4pm Depart for Kuala Selangor – houses the world’s largest colony of fireflies. Adter frolicking with the silver leaf monkeys, adjourn to a ruiversuide restaurant for a sumptuous seafood dinner. Then catch a boat to watch fireflies at their dazzling best. They feed, rest and also are on a mating ritual. A fascinating sight to behold and silence to prevail.
