Uran Togoo volcano
Uran is an extinct volcano in the western side of Uran-Togoo Tulga Uul Natural Monument in Bulgan province, 80 km west of Bulgan town. Uran means "Artistic", Mongols named it so because its ridge of the crater is one of many examples of circles that arise in nature resembled a nice creature of a craftsman.
The area is situated in the Khutag-Öndör district of Bulgan Province. A smaller area was initially protected in 1965 Again in 1995, it was designated as a Natural Monument with an area of 5,800 hectares. The peak over 1686 m form a circle-shaped ridge about 500 m across that contains a crater lake at about 20 m wide and 1.5 m deep. The Uran and surrounding others are considered to be the remnant of an extinct stratovolcano which formed between about 20-25 thousands years ago.
Also, Uran's highest point provides unobstructed, panoramic views of the volcanic field, distant blue mountains and valleys filled by sheep herd like threw pearls on green carpet. Uran Volcano also offers visitors excellent opportunities for observing and understanding volcanic formation. The large volcanic field surrounding the monument contains recognizable volcanoes such as Tulga, means "Tripod", Jalavch - "pot", Togoo - "cauldron" which are located 12 km south of the Uran uul.
Uran is widely considered by many who visit it to be one of the most stunning parts of the North Mongolia. It is beautiful, utterly wild and unspoilt. Being located within national park, it is by law off-limits to most standard wilderness industries such as farming or mining. It can be climbed in a day from the shadow side, and the climb is considered steep, but walkable. A paved road spirals around the volcano and visitors can drive up to a parking lot at the rim. Hiking trails circle the rim as well as lead down into the mouth of the volcano.
Uran-Togoo Tulga Uul Natural Monument is one of the outstanding landmarks where the rolling grasslands meet the foothills of the Khangai Mountains. Its soil is very fertile and plants of steppe or forest-steppe grow here. Larch dotted forest, asp, aspen and birch trees are grown in shadow side of the mountains.

Khuvsgul province is home to the southernmost indigenous reindeer herding people (Tsaatan) in the world. In the morning, we will saddle our horses.
The largest one of them is Dalain Khui Island with a 5.8 sq km area, 70 km from north shore. Nine species of fish inhabit Khuvsgul including omul, herring, lenok, grayling, perch and roach. This area has been protected since 1992 as a National Park. The lake is still being used for transportation. Russian merchants started using boats for transportation in 1913.
Situated in Orkhon province, approximately 375 km from Ulaanbaatar, Erdenet is Mongolia’s third largest city. The city was established in 1975 in order to exploit the large copper ore deposit in the vicinity of the current conurbation. Erdenet currently lays claim to the largest per capita GRDP in Mongolia, at US$ 6,400, as a result of the operations of the Erdenet Mining Corporation’s activities. Once established, Erdenet became the capital of Orkhon province.
The province itself is home to around 89,000 inhabitants and is one of only three provinces (not including the capital city) to have experienced positive net migration over the past decade.
