Itinerary

Arrive in Livingstone the tourist capital city of Zambia. You will be met at the Livingstone International airport (Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula Airport) by our hospitality greeters and company driver. You will be transferred to and stay in a good tourism style accommodation facility in Livingstone.

Afternoon Activity: Time permitting after your check-in late in the afternoon, you will be picked from the reception of the lodge. You will then be transferred for your exciting, relaxing and splendid sunset cruise on the mighty Zambezi River above the mighty Victoria Falls aboard a medium-sized boat cruise.

Overview of the local Zambezi sub-basin : This sub-basin is the area in which you will do your sunset cruise excursion on the Zambezi River. Wildlife such as Elephant, hippo, crocodile, bush-buck, various antelope, Buffalo, bee-eaters, fish eagle, zebra and giraffe to name a few are home in this area of the Zambezi River sub-basin and can be seen on the edge of the river. Knowledgeable local guides will accompany you on this cruise and share their knowledge on the local history and wildlife. Cold and warm delicious, well prepared snacks are served on board.

At the end of the cruise, you will be transferred back to your lodge.

19:30 pm: At the end of the day, you will be served with a well prepared fresh dinner.

20:00 pm: Narration: In the evening we will have a ‘meet and greet session’ in the lounge where you will meet your fellow travelers unless if you are a solo or private travelers. In the event that you are the only one booked on this tour, there shall be no group meet and greet session.

Briefing: You will also receive a short briefing from the Chief Experience Officer (CEO) on some pertinent facts such as personal safety, required eco-tour practices and some important country information and social etiquette.

21:50 pm: After an exciting day on the sunset cruise, you will retire to bed.

What happens if you are already in Zambia?

Suppose you have already arrived or stay in Zambia and wish to undertake this exciting 10 Day Nanzhila Cultural and Historical Safari trip. In this situation, there is no need for us to pick you from the Livingstone International airport as stated in the travel plan. You will simply need to position yourself at a suitable place in Livingstone at least one day before the commencement of the tour. You should therefore give us the precise location of the place in Livingstone (i,e Lodge or hotel or residence) where we will pick you from in Livingstone.

Program of the day

07:10 am: - Wakeup; thereafter take a morning bath.

07:30 am - Take your sumptuous breakfast,

08:00 am - You will travel to the mighty Victoria Falls for a wonderful waterfalls viewing and tour experience excursion.

08:00 am – 10:30 am – Commence touring the mighty Victoria Falls;

Narration: The Mosi-oa-Tunya/Victoria Falls is the world's greatest sheet of falling water. It is significant worldwide for its exceptional geological and geomorphological features and active land formation processes. It has an outstanding beauty attributed to the falls i.e. the spray, mist and rainbows. Thereafter visit the local craft market just outside the perimter fence of the Victoria Falls.

10:30 am – 11: 00 am - You will then travel back to Livingstone city and;

11:00 am – 12:30 pm – You will visit and commence touring the Livingstone Museum.

Overview of the Livingstone Museum: Established in 1934, the Livingstone Museum is the largest and oldest museum in Zambia. It is located in the heart of Livingstone, the home of the Victoria Falls. It holds internationally significant collections in Zambian archaeology, history, culture and natural history and provides an important insight into the natural and cultural heritage of Zambia. It is renowned for its important collection of David Livingstone letters and memorabilia.

Highlight: There are local museum tour guides available to accompany you. The guides’ service is complimentary.

12:30 pm –13:00 pm - After touring the Livingstone Museum, you will walk across to the Livingstone city centre. You will see the colonial buildings, many shops, banks, local market. This is an opportunity for you to withdraw cash at the numerous automatic teller machines (ATM cash dispensers) for your spending pleasure in Livingstone. Buy your assortment of drinks at the famous Shoprite shop on your own cost; thereafter, you will be transferred back to the lodge you are staying at.

13:00 pm - 14:30 pm: You will take your lunch at the Lodge.

14:30 pm - Take an afternoon of rest in your lodge room.

16:00 pm: Next activity: Village Tour to Mukuni Village. You will experience and see in real time the true Zambian cultural lifestyle of local people genuinely living a genuine life and not acting for tourists.

Adiitional activities: On your way to Mukuni village, you will visit and tour the National Art Gallery for thirty (30) minutes. Meaning that you will leave your lodge at 03:00 pm for the National Art Gallery.

Thereafter, you will travel to Mukuni village at the outskirts of Livingstone city. During the Mukuni Village tour, you will be treated to an African experience where you will get to learn more about the African culture and also interact with people from the village.

At the end of the Mukuni Village Tour, you will be transferred back to your Lodge for dinner and good night rest of sleep.

Meals

All your meals are prepared by our chef for quality control and consistency purposes. We do not get meals from the lodge you are staying at except in some exceptional circumstances and sometimes breakfast is included in the room rate. However, should you wish to eat the meals and drinks from the Restaurant of the lodge you are staying at, you are free to do so and meet the cost of such meals and drinks which you must settle in full at check-out time to the respective lodge cashier.

Planned activities of the day - Early morning game viewing drive in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park

You will do an early morning game drive in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park in Livingstone.

Overview of Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park

Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site that is home to the Mosi-oa-Tunya Falls which means — "The Smoke that Thunders", known worldwide as Victoria Falls — on the Zambezi River. What makes this park unique in Zambia is that it’s the only wildlife area with white rhinos. These are closely protected from poachers by the scouts from DNPW (Department of National Parks and Wildlife).

More details: The Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park is Zambia's smallest National park free from predators. This, in combination with it being an area with man-made boundaries, guarantees an abundance of wildlife throughout the year. In addition to the migratory elephants, wildlife including white rhinos, giraffe, buffalo, waterbuck, impala, wildebeest, zebra, bushbuck, warthogs, monkeys, baboons, hippos and crocodiles are residents in the park year round. They inhabit a mix of riverine forest, mopane woodland as well as grassland, which also provides a variety of habitats for numerous bird species.

Within this park is the Old Drift Crossing Point as well as Cemetery, where the first European settlers were buried. Historically, the Old Drift was where ox-wagons were floated across the Zambezi, before there was a bridge.

Chronological order of the program

05:30 am: Wake up call and take a bath.

06:10 am: You will be picked from your lodge and proceed to Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park main entrance. You will be required to pay the necessary park entry fees to enable you enter the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park.

06:45 am: Commence game viewing within the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. You will take a mini break by the shores of Zambezi River.

Rhino Walking Safari

Thereafter you will proceed to the other side of the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park for a walking safari to view the White Rhinos. You are encouraged to donate anything either materially or financially to the Wildlife Protection Officers who watch over these few remaining white Rhinos 24/7.

A videographer will capture the entire game drive experience for you. A saved soft copy on a flash will be given to you at the end of the game drive. This way, you will always be able to relive this life-time experience all your life!

09: 30 am - Exit the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park and return back to your lodge for breakfast.

09:35 am - Take your sumptous breakfast.

10:30 am: Leave for Kalomo travelling by road up north on T-1 the main tourist road of Zambia (Livingstone – Lusaka T-1 road). It is a good tarmac road and you will cover a distance of about 128 kms. You will pass a small roadside town of Zimba on your way up north before reaching Kalomo.

13:00 pm: Arrive in Kalomo town, the first colonial capital city of the then Northern Rhodesia, current Zambia

Program of the day

07:30 am: Wake up, thereafter take a bath.

08:00 am – 08: 30 am – Enjoy breakfast

09:00 am - 11:30 am: Commence cultural educational tour of the Choma museum and art gallery.

Further undertake an outdoor tour of the Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula statue, a political freedom fighter for Zambia’s independence.

Narration: Choma Museum is a place full of Zambian and African history dedicated to preserving the heritage of the Tonga tribe. You will see for your self the historical artifacts and monuments left behind during the colonial rule of Zambia. It houses and sells traditional crafts and artifacts.

12: 30 pm – 13:30 pm: Enjoy Lunch break at Choma museum or at any other good eating place.

13:30 pm – 14:00 pm. Relax within the Choma museum yard.

14:00 pm - 15:00 pm: Walk across to Choma town and walk about town for a familiarization tour. - PLEASE NOTE: You may buy any type of gifts in Choma town to present to His Royal Highness Chief Mukobela and Chief Chikanza Munyama in rural Namwala and Itezhi Tezhi respectively. This will be done the following day when paying a courtesy call at their respective palaces of their Chiefdom as per African custom as a sign of respect.

14:30 pm : Travel to Singani village in Chief Cooma’s chiefdom in Choma distric outside Choma town for a variety of in-depth cultural excursions. You will visit the Chief Cooma's palace to see His Royal Highness Chief Cooma if he will be present in his chiefdom at the time of the visit. The Royal Palace is a royal site dedicated in showcasing, promotion and protection of Tonga Culture, Heritage, Traditions, events and news about various Royals activities.

More details: This is a village common for the Budima Dance. It is a warrior dance performed all year round by the Wee people on a number of sombre and spiritual occasions, especially during traditional ceremonies, funeral processions, weddings, initiation ceremonies, the installation of chiefs, thanksgiving, harvest celebrations and ritual activities.

17:10 pm - Depart for Choma town and proceed to Leons or Meridian Lodge or any other accommodation facility within Choma for evening refreshing.

18:00 pm – 19:00 pm: Enjoy evening dinner.

19:00 pm – 21:30 pm: Evening relaxation with friends.

22:00 pm: After a day's travel and exciting activities, you will then retire to bed to sleep.

06:10 am: Wake up, thereafter take a warm or cold bath.

08:00 am – 08: 30 am – Enjoy a morning sumptuous breakfast

09:00 am – Depart from Choma for OfftheGrid Namwala: Namwala is a remote rural village town by travelling to the westerly direction off the T-1 main road on a good tarmac road, a distance of about 179 kms.

12:00 pm – Arrive in Namwala and check-in at a suitable and good Lodge.

12:30 pm – 13:30 pm - Eat your sumptous Lunch

13:30 pm – 14:30 pm: Take a rest in the afternoon.

15:00 pm: Drive around Namwala Village to see and appreciate how the local people live

17:30 pm – Take a fresh dinner.

19:00 pm – 21;30 pm: Evening relaxation with friends.

21:00 pm: Retire to bed to bed sleep.

Below is the order of activities on this day.

06:10 am: Wake up, thereafter take a bath.

06:30 am – Enjoy morning breakfast

07:00 am – Leave Namwala for Baanga village of Itezhi Tezhi district for village tours.

This is a distance of about 12 kms on a bumpy gravel road from Namwala to Baanga village in the Kafue Flat plains which will be covered within 20 minutes. We will drive towards the Kafue River to cross on a ferry pontoon to Baanga village into Itezhi Tezhi district to commence village tours.

08:30 am – Report to Chief Munyama Chikaza at his palace. You will present to him his gifts without any ceremonial pomp due to time constraints.

09: 30 am - You will be transferred to your respective home villages as directed by the Chief Munyama Chikaza or his authorized representative.

10:00 am: Cultural excursion: You will Immerse yourself in authentic lla culture as you visit a traditional village, accompanied by an English-speaking guide who lives there himself. You will spend the whole day with your host family in the village. You will do a hands-on participatory village tour in as many facets of village chores or activities as possible.

15:00 pm. You will then make a decision as to whether you will sleep over at your hoist family in the village or not.

16:30 pm. The rest of the team members who do not wish to sleep over in the village will be transferred to Itezhi Tezhi town, about 45 kms away.

18:30 pm: Check-in at either KONZANI LAKEVIEW Lodge or CMS Lodge or any other good lodge in Itezhi Tezhi town.

Notes: You will enjoy your stay in a clean and comfortable lodging at KONZANI LAKEVIEW Lodge in Itezhi Tezhi uphill suburb located outside Kafue National Park. It has one of best and closest view of lake Itezhi Tezhi. In addition, it has all the modern amenities ranging from hot water to Dstv. It is located just a mere 4 kilomters from the main entrance of Kafue National Park.

19:00 pm – 21:30 pm: Evening dinner and relaxation with friends.

21:00 pm: Retire to sleep

Exciting 2 Nights 1 Day Safari Tour to the Kafue National Park - southern region whilst Lodging in clean and comfortable lodge outside the park; just a distance of 4 kms from park entrance.

Introduction: No Zambia wildlife safari would be complete without a visit to Kafue National Park, one of Africa’s largest parks. The park is good for spotting a variety of wild animals especially Lions!

0530 am -0610 am: Wake up from KONZANI LAKEVIEW Lodge or CMS Lodge or Jakulima Guest House (or any other good Lodge) in Itezhi Tezhi town about 4 Kms away from the entrance of the park. Thereafter take breakfast.

06:20 am - 09:30 am: Leave for Ngoma game management area of the Kafue National Park -South for game viewing.

09:30 am – 10:30 am: Travel to the Ngoma management area inside the KNP-South.

10:20 am – 11.30 am: Commence touring around Ngoma area management.

11:30 am – 12:00 pm: (Optional Activity): Drive to the Elephant Orphanage (wildlife conservation Project) within the Kafue National Park -southern area in the ngoma management area. You will see the marvelous work being done by volunteers in looking after vulnerable elephants. Any donation from you either in-kind or cash is welcome to support the marvelous work being done in elephant protection and later releasing them into the wild.

What can be donated by you maybe be (optional i.e not compulsory):

1. Medicines to be used for caring for these elephants

2. Food supplements for the elephants.

3. Safety working clothing for the elephant care givers.

NOTE: On certain days, the Elephant Orphanage center is closed to members of the public including tourists for visitation and tour. This is done to enable the center management carry out specialized routine medical care for the elephants. In this kind of situation, you will not visit the elephant orphanage center but continue with game viewing in the Kafue National Park, ngoma management area.

Afternoon 12:30 pm - 13:30 pm: You will take your sumptuous lunch break at the Elephant Orphanage centre.

14:00 pm – 15-00 pm- Afternoon game drive around the Ngoma game management area

15:00 pm -15:10 pm- Exit Park

15.30pm:00 - 17:00 pm : Visit Iyanda Hot Springs and Iyanda village;

Narrative: Longola Hot Springs is located in Shantanda, Iyanda village in Itezhi-Tezhi, Southern Province, Zambia. The water temperature here can reach up to 87°C! The hot mineral water of Longola is believed to have curative potential.

19:00 pm – 21;30 pm: Evening dinner and relaxation with friends.

21:00 pm: Retire to sleep

Narration: Night 2: Spend two nights at either KONZANI LAKEVIEW Lodge or CMC lodge or Jakulima Guest House or Main Guest in Itezhi Tezhi uphill suburb located outside Kafue National Park across the Itezhi Tezhi dam.

Overview: The National museum of Lusaka will be one of the highlight of your Lusaka tour where you will see exhibits like sculptures, paintings from all ages, cultural highlights and archaeological displays.

This specific cultural heritage museum tells the background about Zambia using four main divisions; ethnography, witchcraft, history and contemporary art.

-Visit Kabwata Cultural Village; A lot of crafts and local print clothing are sold here. This is a perfect place for you to buy a souvenir to take back home.

– Enjoy lunch at any a food outlet offering Zambian traditional food.

- After lunch, visit Lusaka National Park, Zambian's new park for an hour and half tour.

LUSAKA NATIONAL PARK

Lusaka National Park is located roughly 30 kilometres from Zambia’s capital city and opened to the public in June 2015, making it Zambia’s newest and most accessible park. This new and exciting national park is the 20th National Park to be established in Zambia, and only the second national park to be established in a city environment, the first one is the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park in Livingstone.

There are more than 1 000 species found inside the park, including white rhino, giraffe, eland, hartebeest, zebra, sable, kudu, blue wildebeest, waterbuck, black lechwe, impala, puku, bushbuck, reedbuck, warthog, pangolin, and axis deers.
